The Honest Truth About Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf San Francisco

I recently spent some time in San Francisco and ended up staying at two different hotels to get the full experience. First up is my honest review of the Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf, located right in the heart of downtown!

(I also stayed at The Westin near the airport during my trip, and I’ll be posting a full review and comparison of that one very soon—so stay tuned!)

Let’s talk numbers first. It’s a 4-star hotel and usually goes for around $200 a night. Honestly, for SF, that’s a steal. A solid budget-friendly option.

Rates do jump around depending on the season, so you’ll want to check your exact dates before you book.

The Location is Pure Insanity

If you are in SF to actually see the city, this is where you stay. The location is an absolute cheat code.

  • Pier 39 & Fisherman’s Wharf: Literally a 10-minute walk. It’s right there.
  • Ghirardelli Square: 10 minutes on foot (perfect for a late-night chocolate craving 🤎).
  • Lombard Street: I actually walked here. A bit hilly, but totally doable.
  • Golden Gate Bridge & Palace of Fine Arts: 20-30 minutes by bus.

Plus, there’s a Trader Joe’s and an In-N-Out Burger just 5 minutes away. That alone makes it a win. 🍔❤️

The Room: Great, but Here’s the Catch…

First impressions: the room was surprisingly huge and super clean.

But here’s the exact reason why I’m writing this review. The room was dark. Like, surprisingly gloomy.

My room number started with 200, so obviously I thought I was on the second floor. Turns out, because the hotel is built on a slope, it felt more like a semi-basement. Who expects a 200-series room to be a basement?

I was way too exhausted from my flight to argue and change rooms, but learn from my mistake: Ask for the 3rd floor or higher when you check in. You need that natural light.

On the bright side, they have these hoodie-style bathrobes that are so incredibly cozy, I low-key wanted to steal one.

The capsule coffee machine was decent too, and they actually care enough to stock decaf pods 🤎.

The bathroom was spotless, though it had a rainfall showerhead (not my favorite, but whatever).

Who is this hotel for?

Since I’m going to drop my airport hotel review soon, here is a quick teaser to help you plan your trip:

  • Go to Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf if: You want to walk out of the lobby and be right at Pier 39. The property itself feels a little older, but you cannot beat this location if sightseeing is your #1 priority.
  • Stay tuned for my next post if: You prefer a crisp, modern, 5-star vibe and don’t mind staying a bit further out near the airport!
