Holiday Inn Toronto Downtown Centre Review (2026): Is It Worth Staying? (Perfect Base for World Cup 2026)

Today, I’m sharing my honest Holiday Inn Toronto Downtown Centre review! The third property I stayed at during my trip. With the World Cup coming up, I know so many of you are already looking for the perfect place to stay in Toronto, and I highly recommend checking this one out. If you’re looking for a solid base camp in the city, hopefully this helps you plan your stay. ⚽️🇨🇦

During my time in Toronto, I stayed at three different properties, and this particular hotel was my personal favorite.

While it holds an official 3-star rating, the overall experience easily felt like a 4-star property. The quality, comfort, and service you receive for a 3-star price point are truly impressive. It is, without a doubt, the ultimate value-for-money choice in the city.

🛏️ The Room: A Cozy and Welcoming Sanctuary

Let’s take a look inside the room.

The moment I walked in, I was struck by how incredibly cozy and inviting the space felt. As a frequent solo traveler, I often prefer a thoughtfully designed, cozy layout over an unnecessarily large, empty room.

The warm, understated lighting created a beautifully serene atmosphere. It’s an ideal size for solo travelers or couples looking for a comforting place to unwind.

The hotel thoughtfully provides plush bathrobes and slippers, which was a delightful surprise for a 3-star establishment.

A premium coffee maker and complimentary bottled water are also provided.

One of my favorite features was the workspace setup. The desk directly faces the window, allowing you to stay productive while enjoying the downtown city views. It also doubled as the perfect spot to indulge in some iconic Tim Hortons donuts after a day of exploring! 🍩🍩❤️

The bathroom was equally impressive!! immaculately clean and perfectly maintained.

📍 An Unbeatable Downtown Location

The absolute highlight of this hotel is its premier location. Situated right in the heart of Downtown Toronto, it offers effortless access to the city’s best dining, shopping, and sightseeing.

A well-stocked grocery store and several excellent restaurants are located right beneath the building, making daily conveniences completely hassle-free.

Major landmarks are just a short walk away. You can reach the Eaton Centre and the iconic TORONTO 3D sign in about 15 minutes on foot. I even enjoyed a leisurely walk all the way to St. Lawrence Market, taking in the beautiful city scenery along the way. If you choose to stay here, you can easily explore downtown without relying on public transportation.

A Quick Tip for Niagara Falls Excursions: 🌊 Since most reputable guided tours to Niagara Falls arrange their departures and pickups within the downtown core, staying at this central location will save you a significant amount of commute time in the morning.

⚽️ Why It’s the “Perfect Base Camp” for World Cup 2026

You might wonder why a hotel located downtown is the “perfect base” rather than staying right next to the stadium.

During the tournament, the area immediately surrounding BMO Field will be incredibly crowded, traffic will be heavily restricted, and room rates will skyrocket. Staying at the Holiday Inn Downtown Centre gives you a much smarter, tactical balance.

  • Reliable Transit: The hotel is just a 2-minute walk from College Station. From there, you can easily take the subway to Union Station and transfer to a GO Train or streetcar. It avoids all the chaotic road traffic and gets you straight into BMO Field in about 30 to 40 minutes (or just a 10-minute drive on non-match days).
  • The Best of Toronto: When there are no matches, you don’t want to be stranded in a quiet stadium district. Staying here means Toronto’s best dining, shopping, and vibrant downtown energy are right at your doorstep.
